U2’s Berlin Wall

Posted on Thursday November 5, 2009 at 09:01 AM 2 |

U2 finds itself involved in a rather ironic situation in Berlin. In conjunction with MTV the band plays a special mini concert tonight at the city’s Brandenburg Gate celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall. But in honoring one wall’s demise, the band has had to put up another one, upsetting Berliners.

U2’s wall is a massive barrier meant to prevent people without tickets from seeing the show, a rather ironic predicament in itself considering it’s a free gig.

U2 distributed some 10,000 tickets for tonight’s freebie. Since it’s a free concert the no-charge tickets help limit the size of the audience.

Nevertheless, fans in Berlin not having free tickets for tonight’s free U2 show will find themselves on the wrong side of the wall.

At least this wall comes down after the show. Unlike its more infamous predecessor which stood for 28 years.
