Wynonna: Swift “Deserves The Success”

10:01 AM, Friday 11/13/09 8 |   |

Well that didn’t take long. Apparently Wynonna has had second thoughts about unleashing her inner Kanye on Taylor Swift at the CMA Awards on Wednesday night.

Shortly after a flurry of negative buzz regarding the comments she made to a reporter from USA Today hit the Internet yesterday, the 45-year-old singer took to her Web site to clarify her position.

“I understand that my comment about Taylor Swift’s Entertainer of the Year nomination came across as a negative statement,” Wynonna wrote.

“My intent was not to take anything away from her talent and contributions to the country music industry … all of which are truly unprecedented for any artist of ANY age.

“Taylor is a beautiful, hard working young woman that deserves the success she has had and I support her as an artist and as a woman in the business.”

Bravo, Wynonna. Maybe she was just having a bad day.

Saving face. It's hard to believe statements released after the fact from anybody.

Everybody likes stealing a bit of Taylor's thunder. Let the girl have her success, it's not that hard.

I really can't particularly stand Taylor Swift but as far as "Entertainer of the Year" goes... she obviously is. People for whatever reason love her and her brand of country music, so why not just let her win her damn awards? Who cares.

She's having fun and doing what a LOT of people her age now are doing. Winning awards by finding a fan base and making it big in whatever year they break through isn't a problem. I don't think it's wrong for them to win something marking that milestone in their career, be it new or not.

Just my opinion - Taylor Swift has no business in the 'Vocalist of the Year' category.  The other ladies that were nominated are vocally way more mature than Taylor is. She has a LONG way to go to match the vocals we have heard from some of the great country music divas out there.  And Enterainer of the Year?  That award used to go to artists who have paid their dues in the business and learn to cater to all demographics of country music.  Again - Taylor has not done this.  The awards are all politics and popularity contests.. Lately they have been very dissapointing to true country music fans!

Agreed that Taylor Swift's voice might not be as seasoned or sharp as some other female country singers, but she certainly is a talented song writer and entertainer.  Whether or not she was country music's "entertainer of the year", up against Keith Urban and Brad Paisley, I have questions in my mind.    I like Kenny Chesney but his tour left a lot to be desired (very "Jimmy Buffet - like") and, of course, George Strait is an icon...always great but perhaps bland to some over time

Taylor Swift is a star...and she certainly desired honors.  Wynonna ought to think before she opens her mouth.  She is NO LONGER any one's choice as a country singer and not a great example as Ally ( the diarrhea diet aide) spokeswoman.

Wynonna made the statement that was supposedly "taking away Taylor's thunder" BEFORE Taylor even won the awards. So everyone needs to re-freakin-lax.

I love when a "reporter" editorializes..... nasty business Otey..... it's a shame that Wynonna was pressured by "someone" to clarify her first statement, which as WyRocks points out to us, was made before, not after, the CMA awards..... the lesson: don't be honest unless you're kissing butt. What nonsense! If Wynonna looked like Taylor Swift, she would have won the EOTY award when she was nominated for it. Unfortunately, that's how it works, and it stinks (along with Taylor Swift's live vocals). Three cheers to the true vocal power  of WYnonna!
