Earlier this month Slayer bassist / vocalist Tom Araya’s medical treatment for a performance-related back injury forced the band to postpone the "Canadian Carnage" tour it was co-headlining with Megadeth.
Although Araya’s treatments are making progress, Slayer has been forced to postpone its U.K. / Europe tour scheduled to begin Wednesday in Nottingham.
“Right now,” Slayer manager Rick Sales said, “our main concern must be the full and permanent recovery of Tom, so we have decided to clear the calendar and give him the extra time he needs to concentrate solely on good health.”
Slayer’s trip across the pond now begins March 7 at the Manchester Academy. Other newly rescheduled shows include two nights at the London Forum – March 8-9; Paris at the Bataclan March 11; two nights in Tilburg, Netherlands at O13 March 15-16 and several stops in Germany, as well as one-nighters in Austria, Belgium and Italy.
Meanwhile, U.S. fans have new Slayer dates to shout about, while Canada gets those promised rescheduled shows.
“American Carnage,” featuring Slayer and Megadeth, begins Jan. 18 in Seattle at the WaMu Theatre. Next stop on the schedule is Portland at the Memorial Coliseum Jan. 19 followed by San Francisco at the Cow Palace Jan. 21.
Other January stops include Long Beach (Jan. 22); Phoenix (Jan. 23); Denver (Jan. 25); El Paso (Jan. 27); Houston (Jan. 29) and Nashville (Jan. 31). February cities include Duluth, Ga., Louisville, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, E. Rutherford, N.J., and Lowell, Mass.
Along with the new U.S. shows comes word of rescheduled “Canadian Carnage” dates – Feb. 16 Quebec City; Feb. 18 London; Feb. 19 Toronto; Feb. 20 Montreal; Feb. 22 Moncton and Feb. 23 Halifax.
Testament will occupy the “special guest” slot in the U.S. and Canada.
Slayer and Megadeth are also reaching out to fans feeling the brunt of the economic recession by offering a limited number of tickets at the 1991 price of $10. But you better act fast, because “when they’re gone, they’re gone.”
Tickets for the “American Carnage” tour go on sale for many markets as early as Friday, There’s also pre-sale action beginning Wednesday. Plus, “Ultimate Fan Packages,” including meet-&-greets, great seats and pre-show parties will be sold through ILoveAllAccess.com.
