Doherty was arrested Saturday morning in Berlin. According to German media outlet Spiegel Online, the incident occurred outside a bar named Trinkteufel, which translates into English as “Drink Devil.”
Spiegel also cites a report from German tabloid Bild saying Doherty and a friend were kicked out of another bar before arriving at the Trinkteufel shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday, quoting a bartender claiming the singer was “drinking shots and constantly asking where to get cocaine.”
Doherty ended up cooling his heels for three hours at a Berlin police station where he was booked for property damage and released.
Doherty enraged Germans one weekend earlier when he made a surprise appearance at a music festival where he was booed off the stage for singing the first verse of the country’s national anthem – long associated with Hitler and the Third Reich. Since WWII, Germany has relied on the composition’s third verse for its anthem needs.
