Introducing RRHOF’s Class Of 2010

10:01 AM, Tuesday 12/15/09 8 |   |

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its class of 2010 inductees, with ABBA, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and The Stooges making the cut among performing artists.

The Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers goes to all-around mogul David Geffen, and songwriters Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, Ellie Greenwich & Jeff Barry, Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell.

The induction ceremony is to take place March 15 at New York City’s Waldorf Astoria and air live on the Fuse cable network, part of a three-year deal between the RRHOF Foundation and MSG Entertainment’s Fuse.

“We are very happy to present this year’s inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as they represent a great cross-section of artists that define the broad spectrum and history of rock and roll and people that have contributed immeasurably to our business,” said RRHOF Foundation President/CEO Joel Peresman in a statement.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after their first recording is released.

The annual announcement of inductees has become almost as notable for the predictable onslaught of complaints about who was passed over as it is about who gains entry. Rock notables such as Chubby Checker, KISS, Neil Diamond and Rush have yet to join the club.

Chucky and Jon are right on!  Ruch deserves to be in, but it's right that Genesis goes in first.  And absolutely ABBA and Jimmy Cliff can legitimately be argued for induction...but the Hollies?  How many strong ORIGINAL songs do you need to get in?  However I guess it's not the songwriting HOF...plus how many of the Hollies are going up on stage?  There must be 50 former members still alive!

Genesis is fine, as long as they qualify that it only includes the early incarnation with Peter Gabriel.

How cool The Stooges made it!   Raw Power such a great album!  This stuff helped influence Janes Addiction and most great punk bands !!   Oh yeah Janes Addiction should be inducted right at 25 years!  Better count the XXX album when calculating!!     Tequila Slam Dance

The Hall of Fame doesn't know what they're doing if they don't induct Rush next year.  There's no need for KISS to be in there.  They should inlcude another rapper / rap group, as they have been in the past couple years.  Someone who changed the game, like the Beastie Boys.  Sampling as we know it would not be the same if it wasn't for Paul's Boutique.  Licensed to Ill is a classic from front to back.  AND they proved that white boys can rap.  ALSO - they were a big part of fusing rap and rock (as well as many other styles).
