A brutal schedule filled with tour dates and promotional appearances appears to have finally taken its toll on Lady Gaga, much to the chagrin of thousands of “little monsters” in Indiana.
Gaga’s show at Purdue University’s Elliott Hall of Music in West Lafayette was called off last night after paramedics were called to tend to the ailing singer, according to MTV News.
Following performances by openers Jason Derulo and Semi Precious Weapons, disappointed fans were treated to the sight of a police officer taking the stage to announce that Lady G wasn’t feeling well and would be forced to reschedule the show for a later date.
Shortly after the cancellation, Gaga took to her Twitter account to explain what happened and express her regrets.
“I’ve been crying for hours,” Lady G tweeted. “I feel like I let my fans down 2nite. An hour before the show, I was feeling dizzy and having trouble breathing.”
Medical personnel treating the 23-year-old singer told her she had an irregular heartbeat as “a result of exhaustion and dehydration” and urged her to take night off.
“[I] can’t apologize enough for how sorry I am. I could hear my fans cheering from my dressing room, I begged everyone to let me go onstage.
“My stage has complicated mechanical elements, everyone was concerned I’d be in danger during the 2hr show, since I had passed out earlier.
“I am so devastated. I have performed with the flu, a cold, strep throat: I would never cancel a show just based on discomfort.
“I hope you can forgive me. I love my little monsters more than anything, you are everything to me.”
Gaga’s West Lafayette show has been rescheduled for Jan. 26. No refunds will be given and original tickets will be honored for the new date.
A rep for the singer told Pollstar she’s been resting and recuperating since last night and, as of now, her scheduled appearance tomorrow night at Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa is still a go.
Gaga, an outspoken advocate of LGBT equality, is set to host “Hands Up for Marriage Equality,” a benefit in support of the LGBT civil rights movement, at Club Worship in the House of Blues at Showboat.
One hundred percent of the $20 admission fee for the show, which also features Philadelphia DJ Michael Decero and NYC DJ Vito Fun, will benefit four organizations working for marriage equality: Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality Pennsylvania, Garden State Equality and The Power.
