Pemberton Festival Shelved

03:01 PM, Wednesday 1/20/10 Add |   |

Plans to host the three-day Pemberton Festival at Pemberton, B.C., north of Vancouver in July have been canceled for the second year in a row.

A statement from Live Nation said the outdoor event, launched in 2008, will remain on hiatus for the time being. Last year’s edition was scrapped over traffic mitigation issues, but now appear to hinge on liquor licensing and policing costs, according to the Whistler, B.C., Pique.

“We have put plans to stage the next Pemberton Festival on hold while we work with local officials on issues which will make the festival financially feasible for us. We hope that we will be able to bring the festival to Pemberton at some point in the future,” the statement said.

The festival’s debut reportedly drew more than 40,000 concertgoers over four days to see more than 100 acts, including Nine Inch Nails, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jay-Z, Coldplay, The Flaming Lips and Vampire Weekend.
