More Stars, More Telethons For Haiti

Madonna and Beyoncé have been added to the list of music artists appearing on tomorrow night’s “Hope For Haiti” telethon. Meanwhile, Canada has its own telethon to do.

Called “Canada For Haiti,” the one-hour telethon airs at 7 p.m. Eastern and Pacific tomorrow night, an hour earlier than MTV Networks’ “Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit For Earthquake Relief.”

Produced by a collaboration between CBC Television, CTV and Global Television and originating from CBC’s Toronto studios, “Canada For Haiti” features performances by The Tragically Hip and K’Naan and appearances by Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Nelly Furtado, Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies, Simple Plan, David Foster, Chantal Kreviazuk, Raine Maida and Measha Brueggergosman.

But music artists only make up a portion of the program. Canadian celebs from TV and film appearing on the telethon include Michael J. Fox, William Shatner, Pamela Anderson, Jason Reitman, Sandra Oh, Eugene Levy, “Avatar” director James Cameron, producer Norman Jewison, and quiz master Alex Trebek.

Pro basketball’s Steve Nash and hockey great Wayne Gretzky will also appear. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor-General Michaelle Jean will deliver special messages for Canadians.

As “Canada For Haiti” ends, “Hope For Haiti” begins. Starting at 8 p.m. Eastern / Pacific tomorrow night, the show’s lineup continues to grow with Madonna and Beyoncé added to a list that already includes Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, Bono and The Edge, Rihanna, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Sting, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Shakira, Christina Aguilera and Stevie Wonder.

“Hope For Haiti” will air on just about every TV channel available in the USA, including networks ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, premium channels HBO and Showtime. Cable channels carrying the event include Comedy Central, Bravo, E! Entertainment Network, National Geographic Channel, Oxygen, Centric, Current TV, Fuse, MLB Network, Epix, G4, Palladia, SoapNet, Discovery Health, Planet Green and Style.

“Hope For Haiti” will be have three hosts transmitting from three locations – actor George Clooney in Los Angeles, Wyclef Jean in New York and CNN’s Anderson Cooper from Haiti.
