An Evening of Higher Consciousness Club Series

Posted on Monday January 25, 2010 at 08:01 AM 1 |

For those looking for more than just a typical night out at a club, the “An Evening of Higher Consciousness” 20-city benefit concert series offers a mixture of performances from nationally known artists, DJ’s, speeches from social activists and the teachings of The Gyalwang Drukpa.

The “An Evening of Higher Consciousness” series kicks off Jan. 28 at Club Lingerie in Los Angeles with performances by Poe and Ben Lee with Astrella Celeste and Amrita Sen. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Haiti disaster relief through the Live to Love International organization.

The slogan for the “An Evening of Higher Consciousness” series is “Celebrate, Contemplate, Educate.” The goal of the series is to raise awareness about the work that The Gyalwang Drukpa is doing for peace, gender equality and education through community service and humanitarian efforts. The Gyalwang Drukpa is the head of the Drukpa Buddhist Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

In addition to performances by Poe, Ben Lee, Astrella Celeste and Amrita Sen, the Jan. 28 event also features the Jerry Vivino (of The Max Weinberg 7) Quartette and “an all star jam” featuring Fishbone’s Norwood Fisher with Tracii Guns (Guns N’ Roses, L.A. Guns) Jack Maness (Sublime) Bronx Style Bob, Paris Escovedo and Kellii Scott (Veruca Salt).
Celebrity DJs Brent Bolthouse and Carmen Rizzo will keep the crowd entertained between sets by spinning their favorite tunes.

The night is being hosted by Matthew St. Patrick of “Six Feet Under” and includes a keynote speech from Charlie Feldman, BMI-Vice President/Writer/Publisher Relations and Grammy Trustee, as well as a speech from human rights activist and author Aaron Cohen of AbolishSlavery.org.

The event will also feature a documentary on the development of the Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh, India, an award-winning, sustainably-engineered project inspired by the vision of the Gyalwang Drukpa. A live-streaming message from the Gyalwang Drukpa in Kathmandu, Nepal, will close out the evening.

Following the L.A. show, “An Evening of Higher Consciousness” club series will move on to 19 other select U.S. cities including New York, Miami, St. Louis, Philadelphia, San Diego; San Francisco; Seattle; Fairfield, Conn., Chicago; Las Vegas; Dallas; Austin, Texas; Nashville, Tenn.; Atlanta; Denver; Phoenix, Ariz.; New Orleans; Washington D.C. and Boston.

The club series runs through September at which point The Gyalwang Drukpa will begin his own 20-city U.S. tour.
