Introducing Live Nation Entertainment

04:04 PM, Monday 1/25/10 17 |   |

Well, that didn’t take long. The same day that the Department of Justice announced it would approve a merger between Ticketmaster Entertainment and Live Nation, the companies announced that they are now a single entity. Ticketmaster stock will stop trading today, Jan. 25.

The announcement was short and sweet. The two companies “announced they have completed their merger following the receipt of regulatory clearances and approvals from all government authorities.” Ticketmaster stockholders will receive approximately 1.474 shares of Live Nation common stock for each share of TM common stock they own.

The merged entity is now officially Live Nation Entertainment, with stock ticker LYV.

Of course, that’s the easy part. The next step could likely be eliminating redundancies – the common euphemism for reducing payroll.

Ideally, we should've started the boycott back in '94 when the first concert went on sale at $100 per ticket (The Eagles).  There is no reason in the world that you shouldn't be able to go to a concert, play, ballgame, or event for $25-$35 plus a $5 convenience charge if necessary.  The rest is just promoter's greed.  Also, I think the artists should step up to the plate more as Pearl Jam did years ago.  I think they would remember back when they were younger & going to things that they didn't have the astronomical funds it now takes to participate in any kind of activity offered by these companies (particularly during a recession of the magnitude we're experiencing at the moment).  In conclusion, I really believe that someone in the Justice Dept. is on the take if they can't see the violations committed by these corporate leaches.  It's time we stopped taking crap from people who only want to squeeze every last dollar they can from us.  I've cut way back on going to shows in the years since high ticket prices were initiated except the odd few here or there.

How are you going to "boycott" when there's no other choice? If a venue has a box office, you can buy tickets without fees, but many venues don't have box offices, so you have to buy from Ticketmaster, or take your chances buying from somebody on the street

I just paid a $7.75 service charge on a $27 ticket, plus a $2 facility fee, for the Aragon in Chicago, which does not have a box office, so you buy from Ticketmaster or you don't go
