Costello sure has been busy. He just wrapped up the second season of his acclaimed interview show – “Spectacle: Elvis Costello With…” – on the Sundance Channel and launches into tour mode April 7 at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts in Davis, Ca.
But this isn’t a same-set-different-town kind of run. Costello is mixing it up, playing some solo dates as well as gigs with the Imposters. Plus he’s he’s doing a few dates with the Sugarcanes, the group composed of Jerry Douglas (dobro), Stuart Duncan (Fiddle), Mike Compton (Mandolin), Jeff Yalor (accordian) and Dennis Crouch (double bass), which accompanied Costello on the T Bone Burnett-produced album Secret, Profane & Sugarcane.
The solo shows take place April 7 through 13 in Arizona and California, and include stops in Napa at the Napa Valley Opera House and San Diego at the Balboa Theatre.
The Sugarcanes join Costello in Boston at the Orpheum Theatre April 20 and stay on the tour through the May 1 show at MerleFest in Wilkesboro, N.C. Shows with the Imposters are Atlantic City at Caesars April 16, Biloxi at the IP Casino Resort April 17 and Reno at the Peppermill Casino May 15.
There are also two special shows scheduled for May 28 and 29 in Dallas at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Although the gigs are billed as solo shows, that doesn’t mean it will just be Costello and his guitar. Helping him out on the two shows will be the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
