Antigone Rising’s Rising New Singer

Posted on Thursday February 4, 2010 at 05:01 PM 2 |

You’ll see a new face behind the mic when you next see Antigone Rising. She’s Nini Camps, and she joins the band just in time to embark on a tour beginning Feb. 20 on the East Coast.

We wouldn’t blame you if you’re a little confused about the current Antigone Rising lineup, what with at least seven musicians joining and leaving over the years. In addition to newest member Camps, the current lineup consists of Henderson sisters Cathy (guitar, vocals) and Kristen (guitar, bass, vocals) along with Dena Tauriello (drums).

Camps, who one time fronted folk-rock band Lovepie, is a first generation Cuban-American who originally hails from Miami. The plan is for Camps and Antigone Rising to head into the recording studio at the end of this month. That is, when they’re not playing dates in the northeastern states.

Speaking of dates, it’s a short list showing the band playing Lehman College in The Bronx Feb. 20; Bordentown, N.J., at The Record Collector Feb. 26; Philadelphia at Tin Angel March 19; Albany at Jillian’s March 25; Norfolk, Conn., at Infinity Music Hall April 29 and Valhalla, N.Y., at the Mamapolooza Festival at the Kensico Dam May 22.

Nini actually did some shows last year with Antigone Rising.  I didn't catch any, but will be at the Tin Angel in March.

I have to thank Michelle Malone for introducing me to both Nini Camps (in 2005) and Antigone Rising (in 2000),  I've always liked both and seen them many times.  It should be a good fit!  Best of luck and can't wait for March 19th!

Nini's a great fit for the band!  They're all so talented... can't wait to see them again.
