Clapton Slots Crossroads 2010

09:01 AM, Wednesday 2/10/10 5 |   |

More than 20 of the world’s best axmen will descend upon Chicago this summer for Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival.

The date is June 26 and the place is Toyota Park, located in Bridgeview, Ill., just outside the Windy City. Guitar slingers lined so far for the one-day event include B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Doyle Bramhall II and Buddy Guy as well as ZZ Top and the Allman Brothers Band. Vince Gill, John Mayer and Sheryl Crow will also appear.

Other artists appearing at Crossroads include Steve Winwood, Sonny Landreth, Bert Jansch, Joe Bonamassa, James Burton, Earl Klugh, Robert Cray, Albert Lee and Hubert Sumlin.

All profits from the festival will benefit the Clapton-founded addiction treatment and education facility The Crossroads Centre, located on the West Indies island of Antigua.

“The Crossroads Festival is the realization of a dream for me, to gather a group of amazingly talented musicians to perform on one stage,” Clapton said in a statement. “The Crossroads performers are all musicians I admire and respect.”

Tickets, which are priced at $100 – plus parking and applicable fees – go on sale Saturday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. Chicago time. For more information, click here for the “Crossroads Guitar Festival” Web site.

I'm so glad that he's doing it again!! I hope that by some miracle I can actually attend it in person since it's in Chicago, but if not, hopefully there will be another online Webcast of the show. & I'm pretty sure that we'll get a DVD out of this one as well. It'd be cool to see Clapton play with The Allmans once again.

The fact that John Mayer is there is enough for me to skip this.  Is Clapton getting some sort of credit from the Record Industry for including him?

Did you see how D. Trucks practically ignored Mayer while they were on stage last year?  WTF?

Having seen John Mayer at 2004 Xrds and opening for Stones in '05, he is worthy of performing. He is much more than the unfortunate pop-only view.  This line-up is quite similar to 2004 which was a life-changing experience for me.  That was 3 days- one day like in 07 will be overwhelming, but definitely worth it.  And, Eric Johnson should most definitely by part of it; as should Steve Vai and Eric Sardinas.

Why Mayer again. Not very bluesy in my opinion. How about billing Alvin Lee ( former Ten Year After blues axemen). There are so many more axemen blue rthan Mayer.
