Tom Petty Gets His Tour ‘Mojo’ Working

10:01 AM, Thursday 2/25/10 4 |   |

The concert year just got a little more interesting with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers announcing a North American tour featuring guest appearances by Crosby, Stills & Nash, My Morning Jacket, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top and Drive-By Truckers.

The boys are hitting the road in support of their first studio album in 8 years – Mojo – scheduled for an early Spring release.

Fans purchasing tickets online will be e-mailed codes entitling them to download two tracks from the album – “First Flash Of Freedom” and “Good Enough” – and will receive a download of the entire album upon its release.

You can also get a taste of Mojo by listening to the stream of “Good Enough” available on the group’s Web site.

Let’s look at the dates.

The tour begins in Raleigh, N.C., at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion May 6. Charlotte is up next, as the band plays the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre May 7. Other stops include Houston at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion May 16; Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl May 22; Quincy, Wash., at The Gorge June 11-12; Edmonton at Rexall Place June 16; Winnipeg at MTS Center June 19; Milwaukee’s Summerfest June 25; Chicago at United Center July 17; New York at Madison Square Garden July 28 and Mansfield, Mass., at the Comcast Center August 19 & 21. Last date on the schedule is Aug. 27 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

The special guest lineup has Joe Cocker appearing May 6 to June 19; Drive-By Truckers June 22-23 & July 10-24; ZZ Top June 25; Crosby, Stills & Nash Aug. 11-17 & 25-27 and My Morning Jacket Aug. 19-24. Special guests for July 28 (New York City) and July 31 (Philadelphia) are yet to be determined.

Fan club pre-sales for select markets begin March 3, the Milwaukee Summerfest show goes up March 6 and the general public onsale starts March 8. For more information, click here for the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Web site.

Hopefully he will return to "The Last DJ" LP and play some songs from that album.

Speaking of "The Last DJ", do you remember that song 'Before Money Was King'? What happened Tom? The ticket prices for this tour are outrageous.

Petty Sells Fans Out with sinful ticket prices.  Tom has joined the ranks of other artists authorizing Live Nation to sell his concert tickets at highly inflated prices.  Did playing the Super Bowl go to his head?   $300 plus service charges is what it costs a fan for the best "Mojo" seats in the house and $130 plus SC for the rest of the seats down in the lower pavilion at sheds and over to the sides of the floor and lower bowl for arena seats.  As an average income fan who has supported Petty over the years I find this very offensive!   I will no longer buy anything, e.g., concert tickets, music or merchandise, from him again.

Tom Petty is always great to see in concert. Now the waiting is the hardest part.
