For someone who’s been literally forced off the air until September, Conan O’Brien is doing a pretty good job of staying in the public eye. First there were the random and hilarious tweets he started sending recently, then a nationwide two-month tour that kicks off in April and now it seems his return to the late-night wars may be in the bag.

Although rumors surfaced about O’Brien relocating to Fox before he stepped away from “The Tonight Show” in January, Leslie Dart, a rep for the writer/comedian/talk show host confirmed he and the network are “definitely talking.”

Of course Fox isn’t the only place the former “Late Night” host is shopping for a new home, several cable networks have expressed an interest and there is also talk of a syndicated show that would air in “early fringe” weeknights between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. EDT.

If an announcement about Fox comes, it could be as early as May 17, when the network makes what’s known in the industry as its “upfront presentation” of new shows for the fall.

A spokesman for Fox said the network had no comment about the rumors other than what News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch told reporters in February: “We’re giving it a lot of thought and a lot of examination.”

Dart said the comedian is “considering everything” and “wants to get this done as soon as possible, regardless of where he ends up.”

In the meantime, fans will have to be content with the upcoming tour and tweets from O’Brien like this sly dig at NBC couched in a helpful reminder about daylight savings time:
“Remember everyone – tonight at eleven set your clocks two hours back. Then at 2 a.m., a half hour forward. You’re welcome.”

Stay tuned.
