No Lilith For Clarkson

03:01 PM, Friday 7/2/10 5 |   |

Kelly Clarkson says she’s off the Lilith tour. Meanwhile, the beleaguered festival co-founded by Sarah McLachlan cancels yet another date.

It’s no secret Lilith ticket sales aren’t exactly what organizers were expecting. Which is why they scratched 10 markets from the routing only yesterday – Salt Lake City, Montreal, Raleigh, Charlotte, Birmingham, West Palm Beach, Tampa, Austin, Houston and Dallas.

But what caught our eye when we read the announcement of the canceled shows was a line stating, “In light of these cancellations, some artists who were set to appear later in the tour may be performing in other cities.”

In other words, some artists scheduled to appear may change their minds after hearing about the cancellations. That’s perfectly understandable. Some artists may have scheduled their Lilith appearances in relation to other concert gigs or other professional commitments and the canceled Lilith shows might affect their own touring logistics or other plans.

Artists like Kelly Clarkson, who was scheduled to play 14 Lilith dates.

The singer posted an announcement on her website today saying she’s decided not to tour this year.

From KellyClarkson.com:

“With the news of canceled Lilith dates and my current progress in the studio, we’ve made the decision not to tour this summer. I’m going to miss seeing y’all, but I hope that when you hear what we’ve been working on, you’ll be as excited as I am. I’ve been working with some amazing people and am stoked about this next album!”

Meanwhile, you can add another canceled market to the list of Lilith shows that were not meant to be. The tour has nixed the last date on the schedule – Aug. 8 in Atlanta at Aaron’s Amphitheatre At Lakewood.

Making up for the bad news is word that Sarah McLachlan will perform at Atlanta’s Chastain Park Aug. 5. Fans who previously purchased tickets for Lilith’s Atlanta stop will have an opportunity to purchase tickets for the Aug. 5 McLachlan show in a presale beginning July 14 at 10 a.m. The public onsale begins July 17 at 10 a.m. All times Eastern Daylight.

Unfortunate because this spells another discontinuation of another multi-city festival.

I have no sympathy for them.  It's not that people don't have money, it's just they don't want to spend the big money they're asking for this show because the talent isn't there.  For the Toronto Lilith show they're charging $800 for the top tickets.  Back when they had the Lilith shows 10 years ago I went both years and it was packed because they were only charging $50 a ticket.

I agree with Heresy... it's also a tough summer because there are so many tours this year.

There are so many tours and the tickets are OUTRAGEOUS for every show! In 2007 I went and saw one particular tour 4 times with the second tier ticket prices, even traveling to Colorado for the tour's closing show because the cost of the plane tickets and hotel combined with the tickets/travel costs from the first three shows wasn't as expensive as a top priced Lilith ticket. The industry is ruined because of their greed and until they see that, they will be learning the hard way.
