Stones To Keep Rolling?

11:01 AM, Monday 7/26/10 12 |   |

The rumored 2011-’12 Rolling Stones tour might not be the band’s last.

An anonymous tipster told London’s Sun that The Rolling Stones are planning to bow out in style next year and are talking to Live Nation about a potential stadium tour.

Drummer Charlie Watts, the oldest Stone, will turn 70 during the tour and bandmates Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger – all in their mid-60s – agreed the milestone would make for a good departure from live touring.

“The band realize that age is creeping up on them,” the source said. “They want to bow out on top of their game, and not short-change their fans.”

However, when Entertainment Weekly did its fact-checking, the magazine got a different answer from the Stones’ representative: It is “not true” that the Rolling Stones are retiring.

Last September, Australia’s Undercover magazine reported Watts had quit the band, according to an anonymous source. Watts was allegedly persuaded by Keith Richards to do the Bigger Bang tour, but that was the end of his commitment to the band. Reps for the Stones quickly rejected the report.

The Rolling Stones have long been associated with promoter Michael Cohl, Live Nation’s chairman until 2008. Cohl is producing the Broadway musical “Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark,” scored by U2’s Bono and The Edge.

There was no official statement regarding the Sun story as of Monday morning.

Why would anyone want to see a bunch of old geezers who haven't put out a decent song since the late 70s?

I'd still see them.  They are still way better than the new young artists who don't put anything good out at all.

they shouldn't bother. even on bigger bang it was obvious they are just going through the motions now.

their set list never changes, the songs are predictable, its all about making money...all completely the opposite of what rock n roll is supposed to be

Will Always be a STONES fan, but would not want to imagine the prices of tickets if they toured. The artists are now "Gouging the fan and calling them "Experiences"  Bon Jovi charged something like $1800 for Meet & Greet.  The Stones wouldn't do a meet and greet, but scared that they would be tempted by lienation, into selling seats in the first 10 rows or first 5 rows for $1800 a piece. Or worse, Auction with the starting price @ $1800.  That is the direction of how we are becoming valued as fans.  Pay to play and pay to see me close.

Glad to see the Stones anytime! Seen 17 shows since 1989, but wish they would do arenas more. The Stones in arenas are great. First band to take tours out to arenas in 1969. The stadium tours are good too, but i wanna be closer.

Well every tour they do out grosses the last and they are always on the top of the all-time biggest tours. So people still want to see them. NO ONE ELSE can  do it. Maybe Pink Folyd or Led Zepp, but they wont do it. But i do think Plant will break one day and do one Zep tour.

I have to laugh when I see any negative comments about the Stones!  They were, are and will always be considered the greatest rock and roll band to have existed!  Every time I have seen them in concert, they have continued to equal or surpass their earlier performances!  Mick is in great shape and hasn't lost an ounce of energy!  Keith, Ronnie and Charlie also continue to amaze!  Remember, the longer one plays, the more proficient they become.  There is not one single band around today that can even come close to the real rock and roll that they play.  They once stated that they will continue to play until the day that they drop!  I certainly hope so, because there is nobody around who could ever surpass them!!    Very few bands from the past could only come close to them.  So, those of you who have posted negative comments are either tone deaf or just basing your comments on age.  How very sad for those that fit into that category!  The great Willie Nelson is 78 and his concerts are packed.  The late  Andrea Segovia, the greatest guitarist of all time, cintinued to play, teach classes.....until he passed over at age 98!  I could give many more examples but it would take me pages to write about them.  Also remember that age 65 is like age 45 in todays' standards.  Like fine wine, they grow better with age!!!!  My heart goes out to the people who cannot comprehend what I am attempting to tell you.  Unfortunatley, it is your loss and thankfully not mine.

I've been on every tour since 1966. There are very few performers out there today that could keep up the pace & momentum these old 'geezers' ,as someone called them, put out NON-STOP for 2 to 3 hours. If you haven't seen them live in action, keep the lousy comments to yourself. No live performance anywhere can compare to an evening stadium event doing 'Sympathy For The Devil' like at Fed Ex field in MD on last tour was absolutely immense. At least 3 generations of 'rock n rollers' were on hand, some with their children & grandchildren (me for one). I've even traveled to Amsterdam to see them. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! "I know it's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it, like it, yes I do!"
