Gorillaz North American Dates Revealed

11:01 AM, Wednesday 7/28/10 Add |   |

It was only last week when Gorillaz announced a world tour. Now the band is giving out details, naming dates, cities and venues in North America.

Of course, a Gorillaz tour is hardly ordinary. Created as animated characters by artist Jamie Hewlett and Blur’s Damon Albarn, Gorillaz began life in the two-dimensional world and ventured forth into our three-dimensional realm as holographic projections, appearing at event such as at the MTV Europe Movie Awards in 2005 and the Grammy Awards in 2006.

More recently, Albarn and a stellar list of artists, including Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash, along with Bobby Womack and De La Soul, appeared as Gorillaz at Coachella. Since then Gorillaz has also played the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival, Roskilde in Denmark and Benicassim in Spain.

The band group also played the ancient Citadel in Damascas and the Byblos Festival in Beirut.

Touring in support of their latest CD, Plastic Beach, the Gorillaz North American leg begins in Montreal at Bell Centre Oct. 3; peels off a show in Wallingford, Ct., at Oakdale Theatre Oct. 5, swings over to Boston’s Agganis Arena Oct. 6 and goes ape at New York’s Madison Square Garden Oct. 8. Other stops include Washington, Detroit, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle and Vancouver.

Ticket sales begin Aug. 6. For more information, click here for the Gorillaz website.
