If they merge, I hope we'll see more and more ticketing sites offering us a break in fees with easier use. Places like Brown Bag tickets or Ticketweb started to beat the TM machine, I think they've done a great job (even if eventually gobbled up by the man). I hope there is a government agency looking after the public's interest on this issue. I'm certainly going to inquire with my representatives in office. My friends and I (each) attend upwards of 50 concerts a year. We spend our hard earned money supporting music and events we love. So I know we pay our fair share of fees. It's out of control and if they merge, that will be the end of it because we already know both companies are GREEDY!
