The Closing Bell

05:01 PM Thursday 8/28/08 | |

We finish the day with new dates for Lucinda Williams, Misfits, Mason Jennings and Yngwie Malmsteen, and links to items about Suge Knight getting out of jail, news on the Christian version of "Guitar Hero," Trent Reznor talking about his past demons, the famous-person obituary that was just a little too early, Joan Baez saying she's "still right," and a report that Canadians are only using iPhones for (gasp!) making phone calls.

Overnight Sensation …

Our writers are very proud of the following two items scheduled to post during the next 16 hours. Gosh, give these guys a spell checker and they think they own the world.

State Radio Fights For Your Rights - The Boston alt-rock trio announces a 24-city trek to bring attention to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Horrorpops For Halloween - The Danish psycho-punk band has announced a fall jaunt in support of its third album Kiss Kiss Kill Kill.

Link-O-Rama …

Suge Knight released from Vegas jail, promises to appear Las Vegas Justice Court on September 26 - Associated Press

This just in - Steve Jobs is not dead - San Jose Mercury News / Docu-Drama (registration may be required)

Christian take on the "Guitar Hero" vid game - "Guitar Praise" to land on store shelves next month - The Guardian U.K.

This article says most Canadians only use the iPhone for talking, and that they don't bother with all the other features, like listening to music, Web surfing or texting. Do you suppose Apple should have made it look like a hockey puck? - Canadian Business Online

Trent Reznor talks about past demons, future plans - Los Angeles Times (registration may be required)

Joan Baez says she was right 40 years ago and she's still right today - The Times Online U.K.

Finally, guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen adds U.S. dates for October. New listings include October 4 in San Antonio at Scout Bar, October 11 in Anaheim at House Of Blues, October 19 in Chicago at House Of Blues and October 26 in Sayreville, New Jersey at Starland Ballroom.
