Experience Hendrix

12:38 PM Wednesday 1/28/04 |   |

An ample array of musicians is coming forth to pay tribute to Jimi Hendrix on the Experience Hendrix tour. Three dates have been announced for the venture, beginning in Hendrix's hometown of Seattle February 22 and continuing to Portland and San Francisco.

The Seattle show, which takes place at the Paramount Theater, will be a mammoth production featuring Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Living Colour, former Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, Indigenous, Kid Rock lead guitarist Kenny Olson, former Howlin' Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin, Earth, Wind & Fire guitarist Sheldon Reynolds, Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon (aka Double Trouble, Stevie Ray Vaughan's rhythm section), Bad Company's Paul Rodgers, as well as original Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Billy Cox.

Many of the same performers will continue on for the next two dates. Joe Satriani will appear at the San Francisco show, which takes place at the Warfield. The artists are scheduled to perform classic Hendrix originals as well as songs covered and popularized by the legendary guitarist.

The tour is being presented by Experience Hendrix, the production company formed in 1995 by the late musician's family.
