The Village Voice Raises Its Siren Song

03:39 AM Saturday 5/3/03 |   |

Looking for a cheap date this summer? Why not check out the third annual Siren Music Festival. Providing you live somewhat near Coney Island, nothing beats the free entry they're offering.

The fete, put on by The Village Voice weekly newspaper, goes down July 19 from noon to 9:00 p.m. and features an impressive sampling of indie rock veterans and emerging artists from around the world.

Some of the confirmed bands include Modest Mouse, Hot Hot Heat, Sahara Hotnights, !!!, The Kills, Radio 4, Ted Leo/Pharmacists, Northern State, and The Pattern. Many more artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Previous Siren festivals have featured DJs, carnival games, oddball circus troupes, fire performers and cabaret acts. Plus, there's all the regular amusements of the Coney Island board walk, including the fabled Cyclone rollercoaster.
