Midday Update

12:29 PM Monday 11/10/08 | |

Hey, kids! Do you know what time it is? That's right! It's time to take a break! And we have lots of stuff for you today including new dates for Ani DiFranco, Don Felder and Tracy Chapman, and links to items about appreciating Klingon Opera, the world's only trumpet-playing robot, the fearless Taylor Swift, and the mild-mannered Bill Frisell.

Link-O-Rama …

As if worrying about going deaf isn't enough, now experts say music headphones may pose risk to heart pacemakers - CIO Today

Record producer / music publishing exec Mark Bright named President and CEO of Word Entertainment - MarketWatch / Warner Bros. Records / Business Wire

Is Klingon opera an artistic breakthrough? Or is it just another example of Trekkies with too much time on their hands? - The New York Times (registration may be required)

Taylor Swift is fearless. Pass it on … - The Chicago Tribune

The world's only trumpet-playing robot to perform with Cincinnati Pops Orchestra - WCPO

Catching upwith Bill Frisell - The Times Online U.K.

Dates, Dates & More Dates …

Ani DiFranco updates this afternoon with new Australia gigs. Newly posted shows list Ms. DiFranco appearing in Adelaide on January 28 at Thebarton Theatre; Melbourne on January 30 at Palais Theatre; Canberra on February 2 at Canberra Theatre; Newtown on February 3 at Enmore Theatre and Brisbane on February 4 at The Tivoli.

We rarely see dates for ex-Eagles-man Don Felder, so today we're happy to shine the update spotlight on Don's two Niagara Falls, Ontario, dates at the Fallsview Casino Resort (February 20 & 21) and his San Diego appearance at House Of Blues - Delta Room on April 10.

And we have a few U.K. / Ireland / Euro stops for Tracy Chapman - December 9 & 10 in Dublin at Olympia Theatre; December 16 in London at Apollo Hammersmith and December 19 in Paris at Palais des Congres.

During the last couple of hours we also updated the schedules for Tom Rush, The Nadas, The Mahoney Brothers, The Lost Dogs, The Guggenheim Grotto, Rachael Yamagata, Paul Oakenfold, Mark Erelli, Glasvegas, Doobie Brothers, Billy Joel and Celine Dion.

But that's only the first half of today, and we'll have more fresh concert info in Your Latest Update. Look for it posting sometime around 3 pm (PST) on Pollstar.com!
