The Closing Bell

Hear that? That’s the sound of the weekend calling. But before we head on out the door we want to leave you with new dates for 3 Doors Down, Alanis Morissette, Railroad Earth and Reverend Horton Heat, and links to items about ‘70s prog rock, heavy metal music in Egypt, worst Christmas album covers of all time and the iPod add-on that doubles as a breathalyzer.

Working For The Weekend …

The following items scheduled to post during the next 72 hours were prepared by hardworking writers who would toil for free if it meant that was the only way for them to see their words on your screen. Yeah, we know, but nobody said writers knew how to handle money.

Saturday: Just The Secondary Ticket For Christmas - Although times are so rough in Britain that a retail giant such as Woolworths is disappearing from High Street, it seems a concert ticket could be this year’s popular Christmas gift.

Sunday: Plaque ’N’ Roll In Sydney - Dave Evans was fired from AC/DC after only a year – and before it hit the big time – but that’s not stopping the former frontman from his mission of having Sydney, Australia, recognized as the birthplace of the rock band.

  • AC/DC

Monday: McLachlan Onboard For Ships And Dips - Sarah McLachlan has joined the lineup for the third annual “Ships And Dip V” fan appreciation cruise Feb. 1-6 hosted by the Barenaked Ladies.

Link-O-Rama …

For the person who has everything – The iBreath - an FM transmitter for your iPod that doubles as an alcohol breath analyzer – PC World

Big hair, capes, extended synth solos and King Arthur on ice. Yes, ‘70s prog rock was all that. And more – The Times Online U.K.

Dates, Dates & More Dates …

Alanis Morissette has a lengthy tour of Brazil plotted for January and February. Dates include January 21 in Manaus at Studio 5; January 23 in Brasilia at Ginasio Nilson Nelson; January 30 in Recife at Chevrolet Hall; February 3 in Sao Paulo at Via Funchal and February 4 in Rio at HSBC Arena. Ms. Morissette also adds Buenos Aires for a February 12 show at Luna Park and Mexico City for February 16 where she will play the Auditorio Nacional.

Looking for 3 Doors Down? You’ll find the band in Boca Raton, Florida, at Centre For The Arts At Mizner Park Amphitheatre on January 30; Beaumont, Texas, at Ford Park Arena on February 6; Corpus Christi, Texas, at Concrete Street Amphitheater on February 7 and Bossier City at CenturyTel Center on Valentine’s Day.

We also have new listings for Railroad Earth, including January 16 in Syracuse, New York, at The Westcott; February 13 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, at Stone Pony; March 7 in Glenside, Pennsylvania, at Keswick Theatre and April 3 in Denver, Colorado, at Ogden Theatre.

And we received a mess of dates from Reverend Horton Heat. New stops for the Rev and his band include May 5 in Louisville, at Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium; May 8 in Fort Worth at The Aardvark; July 6 & 7 in San Francisco at Great American Music Hall and July 25 in Dallas at Granada Theater.

During the day we also updated the schedules for Ryan Montbleau Band, Razorlight, Old School Freight Train, Mystery Jets, Morrissey, Magic Bullets, Kottonmouth Kings, Hamell On Trial, Eric Bibb, David Gans, Dan Bern, Arlo Guthrie, Z-Trip, Victor Wooten, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Troy Torino, plus all the bands and artists you need to know about.

That concludes another thrill-packed week in concert data. Before we head out for the weekend we would like to remind you that the best music is always live music. Whether it’s an arena heavyweight or just a little combo playing at that coffee shop down the street, it’s up to you to support live music. So get out there and rock! G’night.
