Another TM Suit In Canada

04:01 AM Tuesday 2/17/09 |   |

Fresh on the heels of a recent class-action filing against Ticketmaster in the province of Ontario came a second suit against the ticketing giant Feb. 12.

While the first suit seeks $500 million for those who purchased tickets for Ontario events from the company’s Ticketmaster or TicketsNow Web sites, the second asks for $250 million on behalf of anyone who purchased tickets from the company throughout Canada (other than Ontario) and was charged service fees.

According to the newest filing, the Ticketmaster Canada Web site specifies under its terms of use that any disputes involving tickets for events in Canada will be “governed by the laws of the province of Ontario,” which happen to prohibit the selling of tickets at prices higher than face value.

“This suit deals specifically with additional fees and service charges above the issued ticket price that are imposed on ticket purchasers,” plaintiff attorney Jay Strosberg said in a statement. “The law in Ontario is very clear on this point, and we are hopeful that the court will enforce this important piece of consumer protection legislation consistent with our interpretation.”

Class members taking part in the first suit are not allowed to participate in the newest filing.

This is LONG overdue.  I've been begrudgingly paying the 'ervice charge, convenience charge, facility charge, print charge or mail charge" since '97.  At a recent Cheech and Chong concert I paid 22 bucks in "convenience" charges, 2 bucks for "build facility charges,  and 4.35 to have the tickets mailed! Turns out...these guys have been breaking the law and the practice violates the scalping laws in Canada.  I 'm pissed off as hell that these guys have been ripping me off all these years and I FULLY intend to be remunerated and to help stop them from doing this to others.

I've seen dozens of post complaining about Ticketmaster practices over the years. This is a chance to do more than complain or be cynical. Don't just vent - if you've been ripped off by Ticketmaster -  don't just vent -  this your chance to actually do something about it!

This should be "More people look for way to get money from TM bank accounts". Not to mention the dollar amount is WAY above any amount what they would have spent on tickets.
