Good news for Jay Leno fans in Boston. The NBC affiliate that threatened to not air his show when he moves to primetime, has had a change of heart.

Beantown station WHDH had announced plans to air an hourlong newscast at 10 p.m. instead of Leno’s show, but has taken down an announcement about the newscast from its Web site, according to Variety.

“Upon further consideration, we have decided to telecast Jay Leno at 10 p.m. starting in September,” WHDH owner Ed Ansin said. “Jay is from Andover where I went to school. I enjoy his humor. We hope the new show is a big success.”

Anyone else hear a sucking sound? Wonder if NBC’s threat to pull the station’s affiliation and give it to a Telemundo station it owns in New Hampshire or another local station, WBPX, had anything to do with Ansin’s sudden attitude adjustment?

Apparently NBC was so serious about dropping WHDH, an NBC employee registered the Web domains NBC60.com and NBC68.com just after the station announced its intentions.

Whatever the outcome was, Leno was ready to do his part, saying “I’m sure it will work out. It’s show-business stuff. If I have to speak Spanish and do it for Telemundo, well then.”
