Hundreds of fans and friends of George Harrison gathered in Hollywood today as a star dedicated to the former Beatle’s life and accomplishments was unveiled in front of Capitol Records.
Harrison, who was nicknamed “The Quiet Beatle” during the band’s 1960s heyday, was responsible for hits such as “Here Comes The Sun,” While My Guitar Gently Weeps and “Something.” Following the band’s breakup, Harrison released the acclaimed album All Things Must Pass, a three-record set that included “My Sweet Lord,” “What Is Life,” “Awaiting On You All” and “Isn’t It a Pity.”
Harrison would go on to pen hits well into the 1980s, and was an original member in The Traveling Wilburys, which also included Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne.
Ironically, All Things Must Pass was co-produced by Phil Spector, who was convicted of second-degree murder yesterday for the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson. Needless to say, Spector was not among Harrison’s friends attending today’s event.
But former bandmate Paul McCartney was there. Macca thanked the fans for showing up and dusted off the new Walk of Fame star honoring Harrison. Also present were Harrison’s widow, Olivia, his son Dhani and two Wilburys – Petty and Lynne.
Harrison died of cancer in 2001 at the age of 58.
