After being arrested for suspicion of drunk driving Thursday in Gloucester, England, Pete Doherty is once again a free man after coughing up a $82,000 bail.
The Babyshambles singer – or as one of Pollstar.com’s commenters pointed out, the U.K.’s male version of Amy Winehouse – was arrested after performing a concert in Gloucester. He was charged after police stopped him for driving erratically.
Another arrest isn’t much of a surprise considering Doherty’s track record for run-ins with the law. What is somewhat shocking is the 30-year-old singer couldn’t keep his nose clean for more than six days. Guess he was on a roll.
Doherty was arrested June 5 by Swiss police and charged with consuming heroin after a flight attendant reportedly found him collapsed on a flight from London to Geneva in a restroom next to a used syringe. He was released after paying a fine.
Today Doherty appeared in court in Stroud, England, and pleaded guilty to heroin possession and driving without a license or insurance.
The singer’s defense lawyer said Doherty will plead not guilty to dangerous driving and face trial on that charge. He’s due back in court Aug. 11.
Although he’s a free man after paying bail, he’s not totally free. Doherty must observe a nighttime curfew and use a medical implant to prevent drug use, in accordance with a court order.
