Williams’ tour kicks off Aug. 2 in Waterfront Gazebo in Cold Spring, N.Y., and wraps up Nov. 6 at Birchmere in Alexandria, Va.
Additional shows include Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Ga. (Aug. 15), Blueberry Hill’s Duck Room in St. Louis (Aug. 18), Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago (Aug. 23), The Triple Door in Seattle (Sept. 30) and a spot at Hardly Strickly Bluegrass at Speedway Meadow in San Francisco (Oct. 3).
She’s booked a few more upcoming fest appearances including Bethlehem Musikfest in Pennsylvania (Aug. 5), Lowell Summer Music Series in Massachusetts (Aug. 7), Vasagrass Festival in Hackettstown, N.J. (Aug. 29) and Boston Folk Festival (Sept. 13).
Williams will be showing off tunes from her latest release, 2008’s Promised Land.
“With every album, I’m trying to figure out what I don’t have to say, while still giving each song its due,” Williams said. “On Promise Land, I was paring the stories down to their core. I wanted the songs to sound simple and down to what they were meant to be, which is hard to do. It takes a lot of knowledge to get to the point where you can say what you need to say – no more, no less.”
The 12-track Promised Land was produced by Brad Wood, who’s worked with artists such as Pete Yorn, Liz Phair and Ben Lee. The album features 10 original compositions in addition to two covers – Fountains of Wayne’s “Troubled Times” and the tune “Midnight Radio” from the stage musical and film “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” Special guest appearances include Marshall Crenshaw, Suzanne Vega and The Jayhawks’ Gary Louris.
