Well they’re getting closer anyway. VH1 has tapped ex-“American Idol” judge Paula Abdul to host this year’s “VH1 Divas.”

Abdul will play master of ceremonies for previously announced divas (?) Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Adele, Leona Lewis and Jordin Sparks.

Additional performers and presenters are expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks.

“VH1 Divas” will be broadcast live on Sept. 17 at 9 p.m. EST.

The announcement is good news for Abdul, who’s having a tough year. After the addition of fourth judge Kara DioGuardi to “Idol” rumors began to surface that the singer and choreographer would be packing her bags. The rumors became truth after salary negotiations (with Abdul reportedly asking for as much as $20 million) collapsed.

It appeared Abdul had landed on her feet when ABC announced it was in negotiations for her to appear on “Dancing with the Stars” and “Ugly Betty.” For whatever reason, those talks also amounted to nothing.

Don’t feel too sorry for Abdul though. Her manager David Sonenberg told the Los Angeles Times she’s in talks with all the major networks for a possible new job. It's a safe bet we haven't seen the last of her.
