Up In Smoke

03:01 PM Monday 8/31/09 |   |

It’s the return of the Cypress Hill SmokeOut, scheduled for two sure-to-be-hazy days in Southern California this October.

The two-day music / cannabis expo, presented by Cypress Hill and promoter Guerilla Union, is scheduled for Oct. 23-24 at the San Manual Amphitheatre in Devore, Calif.

This year’s SmokeOut features performances by Slipknot, Deftones, Sublime, Pennywise, Redman & Method Man, Goodie Mob, Bad Brains, Geto Boys, Immortal Technique, Kottonmouth Kings and many more, including, of course, Cypress Hill.

Who has the knowledge, talent and finesse to host such an event? None other than Cheech & Chong, a booking that’s guaranteed to emphasize the “smoke” in SmokeOut.

Created in 1998 to promote cannabis counterculture awareness, October’s festival marks the first Cypress Hill SmokeOut since 2003.

“It’s a stoner’s dream come true,” Cypress Hill’s B Real said. “Our fans deserve an event that celebrates our love of music and marijuana culture. It’s gonna take two days to take it all in. I can’t wait to play some new music and hang with all our friends and fans.”

While this year’s festival sports a very impressive lineup – including a reunited Goodie Mob featuring original members Cee-Lo, Khujo, T-Mo and Big Gipp, as well as a Geto Boys reunion – the SmokeOut will also include a V.I.P. (Very Important Pot smoker) private party, a 420 Movie Night and a glass art showcase. Also appearing will be guest speakers and celebs with the focus on cannabis education, legal workshops and growing tips.

There will also be plenty of food concessions, but that goes without saying.

Tickets for the pre-sale begin Friday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. PDT, and the public on-sale fires up Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. For more information, visit the SmokeOut Festival Web site, the Guerilla Union Web site or the Cypress Hill SmokeOut Myspace page by clicking here, here and here.
