Fans of Seth McFarlane’s subversively patriotic Fox show “American Dad” and indie-rock darlings My Morning Jacket should make sure they have medical personnel (or smelling salts at the very least) standing by on Nov. 22.

That’s the night the members of MMJ will find themselves tooned up for an episode of “AD” called “My Morning Straitjacket,” which will feature 6 songs from the band’s 10-year catalog.

Also animated for the episode, which involves a quest of some sort according to series co-creator Mike Barker, is comedian Zach Galifianakis, who will be portrayed as an MMJ super-fan.

To mark the occasion, MMJ will release a six-track digital EP through iTunes that also features dialogue clips taken from the show.

In the smart-assed spirit of “American Dad,” Barker, who is a fan of MMJ, recently answered some questions about how the new episode came about.

What makes My Morning Jacket a good fit for “American Dad?

The best band in the world appearing on the 59th top-rated show on television? It’s a no-brainer.

What is the spirit of the episode that features the band?

I guess you’d call it a quest. A “hero’s journey” as Joseph Campbell coined the term in his now-classic autobiography, “Thick Enough to Eat Me With A Fork: Growing Up a Campbell in the Halcyon Days of Canned Soups.”

Which character is the biggest My Morning Jacket fan?

You’ll have to watch the episode to find out! But I’ll give you a hint: it’s not Francine, Steve, Hayley, Roger or Klaus.

If Kiss is the semi-official “Family Guy” band, does that mean My Morning Jacket is the semi-official “American Dad” band?

Hell, let’s just make them the official band.
