The Sippy Cups Spring Tour

03:01 PM Tuesday 1/26/10 |   |

The Sippy Cups – no, not the toddler beverage container, but the zany, rockin’, kid-friendly and parent approved band – is plotting its 2010 tour with the first show of the year set for next weekend.

The band, which mixes psychedelic rock, pop and folk and whose live show includes a juggler and other shenanigans, was formed in 2004 at a community fundraiser by three Bay Area dads.

The Sippy Cups' debut album, 2005's Kids Rock For Peas features The Sippy Cups’ take on classic rock ‘n’ roll tunes including turning The Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” into “I Wanna Be Elated,” as well as covers of Elton John’s “Bennie & the Jets, WAR’s “Low Rider” and several Beatles songs. The Sippy Cups’ most recent release, 2009’s The Time Machine features 13 original songs that are both suitable for playtime and naptime, covering important kid issues from “My Loose Tooth” to “My Angry Voice.”

After two months off the road, The Sippy Cups return Feb. 6 with a gig at Amador Theatre in Pleasanton, Calif.

Dates are planned for the first half of 2010 including shows at Peter Norton Symphony Space in New York (March 27), National Geographic Headquarters in Washington, D.C. (May 1), Yoshi’s SF in San Francisco (May 16) and Alden Theatre in McLean, Va. (June 5).

Proceeds from the band’s Feb. 28 show at Yoshi’s Oakland in California will be donated to UNICEF to help relief efforts in Haiti.

The Time Machine recently scored two awards – an Honors Award in the National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) Children's Products competition and a 2009 Parents' Choice Recommended Award.
