Picture this: a bright-eyed youngster shows up to auditions for “American Idol,” makes it through the paring down process, walks proudly out onto the stage and begins singing only to be told by the resident dream-killer at the judges’ table that he’s heard better sounds coming from dying power tools. Sounds like a typical night on “Idol” right? Maybe not.

Imagine if that nasty judge was none other than the King of All Media himself – Howard Stern.

You read that right. That’s the latest tidbit of “wha-wha-what?” news to come down the pike regarding a replacement for departing judge Simon Cowell. (Although it does come from the New York Post, so…).

According to the Post, “an insider” claims the powers that be at Fox are falling all over themselves to land Stern, saying, “‘Idol’ bosses think he’d be even nastier than Simon.”

It boggles the mind. It really does.

Stern’s reps didn’t respond to requests for confirmation from the Post.

Stay tuned.
