CSN, Crowes Tapped For Doheny Blues Festival

10:01 AM Monday 3/15/10 |   |

Serving up a mix of blues, r&b and roots music, the Doheny Blues Festival locks down its lineup with headliners The Black Crowes and Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Presented by Omega Events, The 13th annual event takes place May 22-23 at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, Calif. Along with two fine days of music on a great Southern California beach, the festival also presents plenty of extra attractions including The Kidz EcoZone, International Food Court and the Blackstone Wine Lounge.

You can also sample the best suds in the West at the microbrew tasting at the Backporch – the festival’s third stage of music where bands and artists perform acoustically in an intimate setting.

Here’s how the daily lineups are shaping up. The Black Crowes headline a Saturday bill that also features Taj Mahal with the Phantom Blues Band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jackie Greene, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, Eric Lindell, James Intveld, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Igor Prado with Lynwood Slim.

Crosby, Stills & Nash close the second day of the festival, topping a lineup that also includes Robert Cray Band, Booker T. Jones, Bettye LaVette, Otis Taylor, Duke Robillard Band and the John Nemeth Revue.

Now, we know what you’re thinking. You’re wondering why a blues festival would feature CSN and The Black Crowes as headliners. Omega Events president Rich Sherman has your answer.

“CSN and The Black Crowes are two signature American bands, and while they aren’t the first names you think of for a blues festival, the success of Doheny Blues over the years has been its exciting blend of music – young and old, gritty and refined,” Sherman said. “Plus, the addition of younger artists like Jackie Greene, Black Joe Lewis & Eric Lindell shine a light on the future of music fests like Doheny Blues.”

Today's Lesson: How to increase attendance at your blues festival?

Get some non-blues acts to be the headliners.
