Sure the best place to soak up the culture of Louisiana is New Orleans, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t "laissez les bon temps rouler" once in a while. Just ask Elvin Bishop, Candye Kane, The Mannish Boys and the rest of the bands who’ll be heating up Simi Valley, Calif., over Memorial Day weekend.
The Cajun Creole Music Festival is set to fire up May 29 – 30 in the city’s Rancho Santa Susana Community Park with more than 20 cajun, zydeco and blues bands providing musical accompaniment.
Making its debut this year is the Mega Blues Stage where festival goers can catch the 5th annual Delta Groove All-Star Blues Revue featuring Bishop, Kane, The Mannish Boys, The Soul of John Black, Mike Zito, Kirk Fletcher Band, Arthur Adams, Bobby Jones, Lynwood Slim & Igor Prado Band, The Insomniacs and more.
Also on hand for the party are Bonne Musique Zydeco, Acadiana, Theo & the Zydeco Patrol, T-Lou and the Super Hot Zydeco Band, Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole, Lisa Haley and the Zydecats, Rosie Ledet & the Zydeco Playboys and Pine Leaf Boys.
Tickets – good for either day of the two-day shindig and priced at $18 for adults, $15 for kids 5-12 and free for children under 5 – are on sale now through TicketWeb.com.
Besides killer music, the festival will feature cajun & creole food, dance lessions, a Mardi Gras parade, craft booths and a free kids area with rides and special events.
