So now that we’ve got that whole messy business with Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien settled, it’s time for some really awesome news: Craig Ferguson is getting a sidekick. But not just any sidekick. His second lieutenant comes courtesy of the gang at “Mythbusters.”

Now here’s the part all of you who are devotees of Ferguson’s completely off-kilter comedy will really love – the sidekick, Geoff Peterson, is a robot skeleton!

No, I haven’t completely overdosed on half-priced Easter candy. Ferguson is a fan of “Mythbusters” and had the cast on his show in January. And of course, Craig being Craig, he thought it would be really great if they built him a robotic sidekick.

Enter Grant Imahara, resident robot expert of the popular Discovery Channel show. Imahara cut his teeth working at George Lucas’ fantasy factory Industrial Light and Magic and told NPR about Ferguson’s request, “How could I refuse?”

So why a robot skeleton – especially one that Imahara described to NPR’s Linda Holmes as “a biology-class skeleton on steroids”?

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Ferguson calls his Twitter followers the “Robot Skeleton Army.”

Why Goeff Peterson? Only the twisted mind of Craig Ferguson knows for sure.

Read all about Goeff Peterson, who makes his debut on tonight’s “Late Late Show,” on NPR.org.
