The competition on season nine of Fox’s “American Idol” may be drawing to a close, but one of the show’s most popular features, “Idol Gives Back,” is still growing strong, with almost $45 million collected for various U.S. and international charities.

The annual episode, which was broadcast on April 21 during the top seven results show, featured a host of artists including emcee Queen Latifah, Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, The Black Eyed Peas, Jeff Beck & Joss Stone and Mary J. Blige & the All-Star Band.

Still to be added to the growing total are net proceeds from sales of performances of the top seven contestants on iTunes.

Charities benefiting from “Idol Gives Back” include the Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. programs and the United Nations Foundation.
