Songwriters Hall Of Fame Awards Gala 2010 Shapes Up

To help welcome this year’s inductees into The Songwriters Hall of Fame, this month’s awards gala will be packed with stars and fellow songwriters acting as presenters and/or performers including Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby, Diana Krall and John Mayer.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame was founded in 1969 to celebrate songwriters and their achievements in addition to supporting new songwriting talent through workshops, showcases and scholarships. The 41st annual induction and awards diner takes place June 17 at New York City’s Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Additional presenters and/or performers include Kim Carnes, Judy Collins, k.d. lang, Brian Stokes Mitchell, LA Reid, Raphael Saadiq, Paul Shaffer, Dionne Warwick, Elisabeth Withers and Nikki Yanofsky.

This year’s inductees include Leonard Cohen, Jackie DeShannon,David Foster, Johnny Mandel and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Maurice White, Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Larry Dunn and Al McKay.

Bob Marley is being honored with a posthumous award along with Tom Adair and Matt Dennis, Laura Nyro, Sunny Skylar and Jesse Stone.

Phil Collins will be celebrated with the Johnny Mercer Award. Paul Simon will accept the Towering Song award for the 1970 Simon & Garfunkel hit “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Taylor Swift is being recognized with The Hal David Starlight Award. Phil Ramone will go home with the Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award.

Tickets to the event begin at $1,000 each with net proceeds going to the Songwriters Hall of Fame programs.
