Kenny G Says ‘Net Not Dead’

11:01 AM Thursday 7/8/10 |   |

Commenting on an interview in which Prince said the Internet isn’t what it used to be, sax-man Kenny G says the series of tubes is as lively as ever.

Prince isn’t exactly a neophyte when it comes to Internet culture. The artist formerly known as a symbol was one of the first major performers to embrace the ‘Net and sell music directly to fans.

However, back in 2007 he hired international Internet firm Web Sheriff to root out unauthorized use on the Internet of the Purple One’s intellectual property in a campaign that went as far as ordering fans to remove photos of the artist from their websites. So it’s probably safe to say Prince’s views of the ‘Net are somewhat mixed.

But Kenny G disagrees, saying if the ‘Net is dead, “then I must be dead, too, ‘cause I use it all the time,” adding, “Maybe I’ve got a sixth sense, and I only see dead people. I don’t know.”

The saxophonist pointed out that as a musician he must use whatever tools available to promote his music. On the other hand he also admitted that some of his fans may not be as knowledgeable about the digital universe, say, their kids. Such is life.
