The Twisted Town Of Cridersville, Ohio

05:01 PM Friday 8/13/10 |   |

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider must have found himself a genie in a bottle. After joking that Cridersville, Ohio, should change its name to Snidersville, the town has made the singer’s wish its command.

Snider suggested the town take on a new identity after talking with a caller from Cridersville during a recent segment on his Dee Snider Radio show.

Cridersville will honor the heavy metal star by becoming Snidersville for just one day, Aug. 21.

“I've had many dreams and been lucky enough to have most of them come true, but I would never dare to dream of something like this!” Snider said in a statement, according to CNN.com. “Having a town change its name to mine – even though it is changing only a few letters – is one of the coolest things that's ever happened to me.”

The singer and 2010 March of Dimes Bikers for Babies National Spokesperson will be making a stop in his namesake town Aug. 21 during a Bikers for Babies fundraising ride between Lima, Ohio and Snidersville.

March of Dimes helps prevent birth defects and infant mortality through funding research to find the causes of premature birth.

The charity is especially significant to Snider because his children Cody and Cheyenne were both born prematurely.

“I know first hand about the difficulties of childbirth and the myriad of things that can go wrong. Fortunately, both of [my children] had no ongoing health problems. Many other families aren't as lucky. By working with the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies in their fight against premature birth and birth defects for the past decade, I have been able to help those who aren't as fortunate and raise awareness of these families and children's plight,” Snider says in his BikersForBabies.com bio.

“One of the greatest things about being a biker is that we're a part of a community and this is our chance to do something good – help ensure that all babies are born healthy and strong.”
