Derek & Susan To Do Doheny

The Doheny Blues Festival, scheduled for May 21-22 at Doheny State Park in Dana Point, Calif., hasn’t revealed its lineup but has mentioned one of its headliners – husband-and-wife blues team Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band.

So far, Trucks and Tedeschi are the only artists announced by festival organizers. The Doheny Blues Festival is expected to release its lineup within the next few weeks.

Snake Eats Monkee

Although more than a few pop artists have portrayed themselves in movies, TV dramas and sitcoms, how many can say they were gobbled up by a snake?

Former Monkee Micky Dolenz can claim that honor after appearing in the SyFy Channel schlock fest, “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid.”

Starring ‘80s teen stars Debbie Gibson and Tiffany, the movie depicts what happens when enormous pythons and steroid-fueled alligators run amuck in the Florida Everglades.

During the week leading up to its Jan. 29 airing on SyFy, the scene that got the most attention was the Gibson vs. Tiffany cat fight, which was picked up by bloggers and distributed throughout the internets.

Unfortunately all that punching and hair-pulling overshadowed an almost sublime performance by Dolenz. Playing himself, Dolenz is about to launch into a song when one of the enormous snakes swallows him up whole.

Dolenz’s moment of digestible glory occurs about 4:40 into the clip. Who knows? Perhaps this could be the start of a trend. Which singer would you like to see become a meal for an incredibly large (and hungry) creature?
