Introducing ‘Electric Forest’

11:01 AM Monday 2/28/11 | |

The “Electric Forest Festival” unveils its very first lineup featuring headliners The String Cheese Incident and Tiësto plus Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.

Although “Electric Forest” is the newest festival on the summer circuit, you probably already know the event’s location. That’s because it’s the same place where the Rothbury Festival took place in 2008 & ’09 – the Double JJ Resort near Rothbury, Mich.  The String Cheese Incident played Rothbury in 2009.

“Electric Forest” also occupies the same time period once held by Rothbury, namely the Fourth Of July weekend with the new event scheduled for June 30-July 3.

The festival also hosts Stephen Marley. Kaskade, Shpongle Presents The Shpongletron Experience, Railroad Earth, Laidback Luke, JJ Grey & Mofro, Excision, The New Deal, EOTO, Emmitt Nershi Band, Skrillex plus more bands and artists to be announced.

Brought to you by Rothbury promoter Madison House Presents along with Insomniac Productions, the festival will also premiere its first “Saturday Afternoon Special.” Described as a “mid-festival event within the event,” this year’s Afternoon Special features REO Speedwagon.

Organizers are portraying the lineup as a natural growth or evolution of headliner The String Cheese Incident and the band’s many live events, saying a force similar to what drives SCI is also driving “Electric Forest 2011.”

“For SCI, we’ve always tried to honor our many musical influences, both individually and as a collective, and then do it in the most celebratory way,” String Cheese Incident’s Keith Moseley said in a statement announcing “Electric Forest.” “This festival definitely feels like the ultimate manifestation of all that energy, and the location, well, you just can’t beat it.”

Festival patrons will also be able to partake in the many services offered by the Double JJ Resort including a 60,000 square foot indoor water park, an 18-hole golf course, swimming pools and more.

Tickets go on sale March 5 at high noon EST. Those of you who love festivals but aren’t too crazy about camping will want to check out the festival’s Good Life VIP offerings, including log cabins and resort hotel-style suites. For more info, visit ElectricForestFestival.com.
