Bumbershoot’s 2011 Ticketing Strategy

04:01 PM Tuesday 3/15/11 |   |

The annual Seattle music festival known as Bumbershoot put its first round of tickets on sale today although it has yet to disclose a lineup. No problem, the festival had other things to announce, like changes in ticketing and stages.

Scheduled to take over the Seattle Center Sept. 3-5, this year’s Bumbershoot sports a new ticketing partnership with promoter One Reel forming an alliance with Stranger Tickets. But don’t worry. You can still print-at-home, receive your tickets via mail or pick them up at will call. Or, if you’re feeling nostalgic, an old-fashioned telephone call will do the trick.

Bumbershoot also announced the skinny on its “Insider Deal” tickets that went on sale today. Available only for BumberFan Club members, this year’s insider deal features $75 three-day passes and $29 single “any-day” tickets. This marks a return to Bumbershoot’s original ticketing strategy where one ticket gets you into all the performances. That is, as long as there’s room because entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Once the Insider Deal tix sell out, the three-day passes will be offered to the general public for $90 in advance, although single-day passes priced at $35 won’t be available until the lineup is announced later this spring. Like many festivals, the price goes up once the show begins, in this case a bump up to the $45 level come Sept. 2.

If those gold and platinum passes are more your style, that information will be released in the coming weeks.

Bumbershoot has also changed its venue layout, moving the mainstage to the Key Arena to take advantage of what having a roof over one’s head can bring, including indoor restrooms, weatherproofing and beer sales.
