Prince Announces LA Residency

01:01 PM Friday 4/8/11 |   |

The master of last-minute announcements broke the news last night that he was embarking on a 21-night residency in Los Angeles beginning next Thursday. However, this may not yet be set in stone.

Prince revealed his tour plans on TBS’ “Lopez Tonight” with a phone call to George Lopez.

“The biggest thing I know is that I’ll be starting a 21-night stand … next Thursday, the 14th at the LA Forum,” the Purple One said.

The singer, who referred to himself as Lopez’ “Puerto Rican brother from another mother,” added that the shows would include the New Power Generation and special guests.

Before kicking off the residency at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., Prince will rehearse by performing on “Lopez Tonight” April 13.

Prince had a tip for Lopez regarding the “Lopez Tonight “ performance.

“Whatever you do, just let us bring the purple,” he said. “Everybody’s always overdoing that, purple lights and whatnot.”

With the exception of the April 14 show, no additional dates were revealed. According to The Forum’s website, the 17,500-capacity venue only has two upcoming events on the books – Rammstein on May 20 and System Of A Down on May 24. Prince didn’t mention anything about ticket sales.

Pollstar has learned that at this time nothing is official yet. An announcement is forthcoming.

The singer’s previous “Welcome 2 America” East Coast shows featured performances from Prince and his band, the New Power Generation, along with Sheila E.Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, Esperanza Spalding, Maceo Parker, Cassandra Wilson, Janelle Monáe and Mint Condition.

A true trainwreck in the making.   He tried to do 3 L.A. Shows in one night on  3-28-09 and it was an unorganized disaster.  I wi$h you luck, however feel that if you put a true artistic effort in maybe a few, organized gigs your luck would be much better for your patient/paying fans.
