Reba, Blake Shelton To Host ‘Tornado Relief’

11:01 AM Monday 5/2/11 | |

Country’s favorite redhead and Blake Shelton will share hosting duties at the “Tornado Relief Concert” scheduled for the last Thursday in May in Durant, Okla.

Severe storms, winds and tornadoes whipped through Oklahoma’s Atoka County April 14, resulting in at least two deaths and millions of dollars in damages.

Held in partnership with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Choctaw Casino Resort, the “Tornado Relief Concert” takes place at the casino May 26 with all proceeds going to Atoka County relief efforts through the Tushka Disaster Relief Fund.

Turns out both country stars have connections to Atoka County. Reba was born in neighboring Kiowa. Shelton, who was born in Ada, Okla., lives in Tishomingo, less than 50 miles from the county line.

“A lot of people lost a great deal in this disaster and it’s particularly close to us because we both consider Oklahoma home,” Reba said. “We wanted to do something and let the people in Oklahoma know that we love them and we’re praying for them during this difficult tragedy.”

“Oklahoma defines who I am and seeing the effects this disaster has been on my neighbors, I knew I had to do something,” Shelton said. “Reba and I have a lot of love for this state and we wanted to do what we can to help. This place is my home and these people are family to us.”

Along with ticket sales benefiting disaster relief efforts, a mobile fundraising campaign working with The mGive Foundation is underway enabling you to make a one-time $10 donation by simply texting “OKGIVE” to 27722.

Tickets for the “Tornado Relief Concert” go on sale May 6 at 10 a.m. local time. For more information, click here for the Choctaw Casino Resort, here for Reba’s website, here for Shelton’s Internet home and here for mGive.
