Laryngitis Knocks Out Two Singers

04:31 PM Thursday 5/19/11 |   |

Two bad cases of laryngitis have interrupted the separate tour plans of Duran Duran and Mona.

Duran Duran has pushed back the beginning of its European tour because singer Simon Le Bon’s voice and health are not up to the task.

Earlier this week the English New Wave band announced that the group’s May 18 show in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, at Metro Radio Arena was being postponed because Le Bon had been “diagnosed with a throat infection.” By Wednesday the singer’s diagnosis had been upgraded to laryngitis and Duran Duran’s May 19 show in Glasgow, U.K., at S.E.C.C. had also been postponed “on doctor’s advice.”

According to the band’s website, fans should hold on to their tickets because details about the rescheduled shows will be announced within the next few days.

A statement on the site notes that the band is “hugely disappointed” about postponing the shows and hopes “that Simon will be fully recovered within the next couple of days, and able to continue with the rest of the UK arena dates as planned.”

Duran Duran’s next scheduled show is set for Saturday in Birmingham, U.K. at LG Arena.

Mona also had a setback with its European tour thanks to singer Nick Brown being diagnosed with laryngitis.

The Nashville-based rock band was scheduled to play The Leadmill in Sheffield, U.K., May 20, followed by a May 21 gig at Coventry Kasbah in Coventry, U.K.

The Sheffield gig has been rescheduled for June 20, and the Coventry show is now set for June 28. Tickets will be valid at the rescheduled events. Fans who would prefer a refund should contact the point of purchase.

A statement on Mona’s website says that the band is disappointed about the postponement but added that the members “promise to make it up to you all.”

Mona will not appear at tonight’s Liverpool Sound City event but the U.K. event will still take place. The band’s next show is set for May 24 at the Middlesbrough Empire in Middlesbrough, U.K.
