Flaming Lips To Headline Moogfest 2011

10:01 AM Wednesday 6/1/11 |   |

Celebrating the legacy of Bob Moog, this year’s Moogfest – Oct. 28-30 in Asheville, N.C. – will sport a lineup featuring The Flaming Lips, Passion Pit, STS9, Ghostland Observatory and more.

  • The Flaming Lips

The Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Saint Paul, Minn.

Trying to imagine a music universe untouched by Moog’s electronic wizardry is like trying to picture a world without electric guitar pioneer Les Paul. Since the Moog Synthesizer’s 1964 debut, it has become an integral part of pop music as well as motion picture scores. The device powered early prog rock bands like Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer and gave folks such as Peter Gabriel and ELO’s Jeff Lynne a powerful tool for constructing their sonic landscapes.

Celebrating everything that is Moog, Moogfest 2011 takes place in multiple venues in Asheville, including the Civic Center Arena, the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium and the Orange Peel Social & Pleasure Club. Moogfest will also feature several workshops, talks, art exhibits and interactive experiences.

This years’ Moogfest includes Crystal Castles, Chromeo, Battles, Umphrey’s McGee, Mayer Hawthorne & The County, M83, Tim Hecker, Toro Y Moi, Austra, Matthew Dear, Gold Panda, Holy F**k, Twin Shadow, The Naked And Famous, Anika, and Causing A Tiger, with more to be announced.

Weekend passes go on sale this Saturday at high noon EDT. Visit Moogfest.com for more information.
