Ponderosa Stomp Eyes 10th Year

05:01 PM Wednesday 6/8/11 |   |

Ponderosa Stomp, the New Orleans music festival celebrating American roots music, returns for year No. 10 in September.

Set for Sept. 16-17, this year’s Stomp moves to a new venue, taking over the Howlin’ Wolf for two nights. The very first Ponderosa Stomp took place at the Mid City Rock n’ Bowl in 2002 and last year it split performances between House Of Blues and One Eyed Jacks.

Other Ponderosa Stomp activities have found a new home as well with the music conference, film festival and record hop migrating to the Renaissance Arts Hotel. Unlike the performances at the Howlin’ Wolf, this part of the Stomp is set for three days – Sept. 15-17.

Who’s on tap for this year’s Stomp? As in past years, the music festival will present a stellar lineup of American Music with the 10th anniversary featuring performances by Allen Toussaint, William Bell, Big Jay McNeely, Eddie Floyd, Lady Bo, Sir Mack Rice, Lazy Lester, Dave Bartholomew, The Bo-Keys and more. Expect musical tributes to New Orleans producer Cosimo Matassa, Stax Records, Excello Records and Southern music.
