A shaggy-bearded man almost made off with nearly $50,000 in VIP bracelets for the All Good Festival in Masontown, W.Va., Thursday morning, the Monongalia County Sheriff ‘s Department said.

Russell Wayne Deatherage, 23, of San Jose, Calif., was charged with grand larceny, a felony, the department said.

Capt. Mark Ralston said All Good Festival employees were distributing VIP and media entry bracelets Thursday morning at the Ramada Inn on Scott Avenue when a man, described as having shoulder length blonde hair and a shaggy beard, grabbed a bag containing 100 VIP bracelets valued at $487.96 each.

Festival employees chased the man into some nearby woods, but he was able to get away.

A description of the suspect was broadcast to local police. Sgt. T.L. Merrifield was patrolling on W.Va. 73 when he spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description, Ralston said.
